Kathryn Hobbs

In October of 2007, I became the Scientific Director of the Clinical Research Unit here at the DAC.  Previous to this appointment, I was Administrative Director of the Clinical Trials Unit since 2001. As Scientific Director of the Clinical Research Department, I am excited to institute new policies and programs to promote more efficient clinical research and increase customer service and types of diseases studied (RA, PSA, SLE, OP, OA).  I am currently on the Scientific Board for the CORRONA database registry. I have been co-chairman of the American College of Rheumatology Abstract Selection Committee for the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis, small molecules and biologic therapies. I was also a member of the ACR/EULAR Consensu Panel for revising international RA diagnostic criteria.

Previous to my clinical research responsibilities at the DAC, I held the position of research associate and staff physician at National Jewish Medical Center until I joined the University of Colorado-Denver in 1997.  There I was Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of Clinical Research for UCD’s Division of Rheumatology and Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. I was promoted to Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine in 2004.

I have published articles in journals such as Critical Care Medicine, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and Asthma & Immunology.  Subjects of my writing include the molecular biology of cytokines in allergy and asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis diagnosis and management.  I am committed to patient care and supporting investigations which achieve the highest quality of research and education.

Outside of clinic, I have two young adult children and my spouse, Dr. Marc Cohen, who keep me on my toes. My personal interests include playing the piano and classical voice training.  I sang with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra Chorus at the Aspen Music Festival in 2007. I love riding horses and was a former regional competitor in eventing. I now focus exclusively on dressage, competing at 4th level with my Dutch Warmblood mare “Sublina.”
